Commercial Paper Shredders - Filling A Growing Need

Businesses, small and big, are now demanding paper shredders of various types to tackle the increasing problem of theft of identity. With legal requirements, violation of which can result in fines getting stricter, they find it economical to destroy important documents using a variety of shredders. It has now become necessary to protect themselves from corporate espionage and theft of information. They are finding answers in destroying documents using sturdy and effective shredders of different types.

Shredders especially manufactured to handle such needs are now available in sturdy designs capable of long useful service. Businesses increasingly take recourse to these machines to destroy large volumes of documents that contain sensitive information. Manufacturers of shredders in turn are offering innovative, inexpensive and durable machines to do the job.

Apart from paper, shredders now can destroy paper clips and staples left behind in large volumes of documents. These are called heavy-duty commercial shredders to differentiate from shredders used in homes.

Since these heavy-duty machines handle large volumes of work, preventive maintenance is very necessary to avoid breakdowns and expensive repairs. Preventive maintenance enables you to save on down time while being repaired apart from the high cost of repairs. Regular lubrication and removal of dirt and debris is needed. It is also important that you purchase only those machines with steel shredding shafts to prevent damage while destroying paper clips and staples.

Different sizes, styles and brands of commercial paper shredders are available. To suit the width of the material being fed in, ample throat width to accommodate paper being fed is an important factor. Throat sizes up to width of 18” are available. Reverse-feed function to enable clearance of jams when they occur is also provided. This enables quick resolution of the problem without slowing down the shredding process.

Two types of shredders, strip cutting and cross cutting are on offer. Experienced users recommend the latter as it is believed that the former does not provide sufficient security. It is possible to reassemble strip cut paper of even ¼” width, while it is extremely difficult to do this with cross cut paper which generates waste of such tiny particles that reassembling is impossible. Thus the cross cut shredders are the choice of high security requirement bodies like banks, government agencies and businesses.

Many add-ons are on offer for commercial shredders that add ease of operation for large volume shredding tasks. For instance, hoppers with conveyor belt feed systems help the operator feed material continuously and enhance the safety of the operation as well.

Since legal requirements to protect personal information of employees and clients are now stringent, it is more economical to be proactive for businesses to protect such information using commercial shredders.
